This spring and summer, i am looking for someone who is interested in being my business massage partner for the festival scene. I haven't yet massaged at a festival so any advice or creative ideas would help.

    festival massage is something i have been dying to do. i went to school is costa rica and got my certification that way but we were always thinking of creative ways to give a massage...such as have some funky cool music in the background and we give a massage to the beat of the music(ha which i think would be so much fun) do you have a chair or table? have you decided what festies you wanted to hit up? the only trouble is getting booth space unless you just hang outside of the fest. and do it that way...
    let me know~~

      not sure yet, but in order to get booth space plans must be made. the nor cal festivals seem like nice work. I am not sure how licensing works, if you need a business license in the city which the festival is in or if another one would be okay. I would like to find a few people who would like to split the cost of the booth have a variety of skills, it would be nice to be able to offer something unique. I have 700 hours of training from the school of shiatsu and massage at harbin hotsprings. I have training in Swedish, Shiatsu, Lomi Lomi, Lymphatic and a few other techniques. My sessions tend to be a beautiful blend of lomi lomi and accupressure. I am looking for a fun experiance, working with other therapists and meeting people, i would be happy just to make back money to cover the booth and festival costs.

        Hi Jillian,
        I may be up for going in together with a few people for upcoming festivals?
        Ive done a few in the past. Some I would do again, some not.

        One thing Ive discovered for myself, if working in the middle of a music event the quality or type of sounds blasting around where massaging can be either very harmonious or discordant to a nurturing, deep or even lightly relaxing session.
        Alot of times even if we may not particularly like a particular type of music / sound it can be muted into the background noise in a way when working with people. And appreciated for its own unique flavor.

        One of the last trance events I worked at, which had pretty decent music the year before, that time the music being played for most of the event felt very jarring and discordant to me. Kind of like an audio version of someone having & expressing a really unpleasant, hostile & chaotic trip. From comments I overheard from random people during the event it seemed to be a fairly shared feeling among some attendees.
        I tried one or two brief massages but the sound was so loud and discordantly jarring that it felt like swimming upstream against a chaotic turbulence, and i ended up not feeling like doing bodywork during it.

        The reason i bring that up is that it may be helpful to simply consider that when planning to participate in various events?
        What kind of environment will be near a massage area? Neutral to pleasant smells? Next to an incense stand, flower stand, no particular smells or near rows of porta-potties? Sounds? Types of booths? Curfews for offering bodywork? Is it allowed or overlooked at least to camp / sleep in the space rented for doing massage, when not using it for massage? Etc.

        There are quite a few events from about now through Fall in northern, and probably southern ( probably most places ) California.
        I have been feeling more interested in doing massage at events again this summer. Looking into them. Can be expensive with booth fees, tent or booth materials depending on chosen set up, etc.. Which makes sharing with a few others appealing if everyone enjoyably agrees first on specifics of arrangements.

    I am interested if you're still looking. I've been doing massage at parties, street fairs, conferences, and daytime festivals (where everyone goes home overnight rather than to their tent) for several years now and would love to set up space at a few campout festivals. I have access to a vendor tent of my own, have and can work from a table, chair, or mat and have a pretty strong idea of how to pull in business and to pace myself throughout the day which I can share with my work partners.

    I would especially love to do massage at Lightening in a Bottle, but their vendor spaces were filled long before I checked in several months ago. If anyone has tips on someone who would like massage at their booths, please let me know! I do all Asian bodywork styles: Jin Shin, Thai, Shiatsu, Tui Na, Reiki. I also can incorporate crystals and aromatherapy.

      This summer is not going to work out for me to try it, but I'm really hoping I can do it next year.

      I've been wondering what one does about state to state licensing requirements? Are those suspended for festivals or what? It would obviously get really pricey and complicated to be licensed for every place. And yet, it would possibly get MUCH more pricey and complicated to get caught going against regulations. In Oregon, for instance, there was a man caught practicing without a license and he was fined something like $80,000, I think. Freakin' INSANE!

      Does anyone know anything about this, or have any ideas where one would look to find out?
